Wednesday June 24, 2015 - Oslo, Norway

 

Dag Arne cooked a delicious breakfast.  Christian went to work and we went to the Oslo Opera House - a beautiful structure on the Oslo fjord.  We walked in, around, and on top of it.  Beautiful structure that has helped completely rejuvenate this section of town.

We then walked to the waterfront to get a ferry to Bygdoy.  Crusing on the Oslo fjord is one of the Top 10 Things to do in Oslo!  Checked that one off!

Christian met us in Bygdoy with the car.  We first went to the nude beach to “look around”.  The water was so cold for there were people swimming.

We then drove to Frognerseteren and had a buffet lunch.  It started to rain so I had some delicious hot carrot soup and a sandwich.

Then we drove to the ski jump at Holmenkollen.  I can’t imagine skiing down that slope as it was so steep.  This was the site of a former Olympic Games.

We returned back to the flat and Tim made another key lime pie for Christian.  He was salivating!

We dressed and went to the large Gay Pride celebration in downtown Oslo.  We had a bottle of champagne and cocktails.  There was lots of good music.  Then we returned to the waterfront to an art show associated with Pride – interesting pieces of art.  The exhibit was held in the Nobel Peace Center which is Town Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded.

It started pouring rain but we walked to the restaurant, Solsiden, which wasn’t far.  We got a window seat after some negotiations between Christian and the maître d’.  We all had the daily menu which was salmon with salad, halibut with lobster sauce, then chocolate mousse.  We started with champagne and then had the wine pairings with each course of our meal.  It was excellent.

It was still light at 11 pm so we walked back to Posthallen where Christian and Dag Arne live and then we went to bed.  We had had lots to drink.  I think Christian got back into the key lime pie!
