Sunday July 5, 2015 - Berlin (Warnemunde), Germany

We got up at 6:30 and had coffee before our tour.  We are docked in Rostock, just inland from Warnemunde, Germany.  Jessica was our guide and we set out on a 1.5 hour bus ride to Schwerin.  She talked the entire way!  We took a short boat ride and landed in the city center of Schwerin next to the “fairytale castle”.  We went through the gardens and then had a guided tour of the castle.  We then walked through the city and ended up at the market square where vendors were selling pottery.  It is Sunday so all of the shops are closed.

 Tim and I had an ice cream cone and then went to the large Lutheran church.  We met the group at 12:40 and headed to the bus.

It took a little over an hour to get back to Rostock.  We went to the grill and had a light lunch.  Tim did 2 loads of laundry while I napped.  He reads in the laundry room while “standing guard” over our laundry!

We went up on deck for sail away from Rostock and were able to see Warnemunde.  The clouds are moving in and the weather is changing.  Europe has had record heat for the last 3 days but our days have been comfortable.  I tried to find out what time we would see the wind turbine fields and when we would pass under the bridge that connects Sweden and Denmark.  No one knew.  I also tried to get permission from Michael for Gemma and Alex to eat dinner with us in Signatures, but that was uncertain too.  More on that later.

We had drinks in Observation Lounge and then went to dinner in Compass Rose and it was very empty due to all of the people who went to Berlin for the day.  The Berlin trip was three hours there and three hours back – no way.  Dinner was good.  We had after dinner drinks in Observation and then went to bed about 10:30 so we can get up early to see the wind turbine fields and the bridge as we sail into Copenhagen.  Most of our fellow passengers are departing so we’ll have a new batch of fellow travelers.
