Tuesday June 23, 2015 - Oslo, Norway

When we woke up we had a late breakfast on the plane at about 10:30 am Norway time.  We arrived at 12:30 pm.  Immigration was quick as was baggage claim.  We then took the Express Train to downtown Oslo Central Station.  Dag Arne was there to meet us at Central Station when we got off.  It was a short walk to their condo in downtown Oslo.

We showered and changed clothes and went for a walk through the large pedestrian district.  We walked close to the King’s Palace and National Theatre.

We took a tram to FrognerPark and first went to Wenche’s new flat.  Really great and a beautiful view of the fjord and mountains.  We then enjoyed a walk through the park.  It was a nice day.  Frogner Park has many, many statues by Vineland.  Interesting poses of people – young, old, couples, individuals.

Wonderful statues in Frogner Park - All carved from granite by Vineland

Lots of different combinations of people - old, young, men, women, children, families, etc.

Wonderful faces and poses on the Vineland statues in Frogner Park

And fountains too!

A different style

Probably the most famous statue - the screaming baby!

We walked a while and took a tram to the waterfront and walked all around.  It was perfect to get out and walk after the trans-Atlantic flight.  We walked by the new Astrup Fernley Museum but we didn’t go in.   There were some children swimming in the very cold water at the waterfront.  Brrrr!

We then went to the Thief Hotel rooftop bar and had a bottle of champagne.  Christian joined us there.  We walked back and along the way Dag Arne and Tim went to the store to get dinner and the last ingredients for Christian’s “special treat”.  Dag Arne cooked – Tim made key lime pie for Christian!

The Posthallen - a converted Post Office Building where Dag Arne and Christian live

They decided we would eat in tonight which was great for us.  Maximillian, from France, who lives in their guest room, joined us.  He owns a vineyard in Provence!  We enjoyed some of Maximillian’s wine and Christian allowed us to share a little piece of his pie!
We went to bed about 10:30 pm.  I slept most of the way through the night but it started getting light outside at 3 am since we are so far north.
